Virginia DMV expressly states that a regular online Driver Improvement Clinic does not meet the requirements of a Commercial Driver Improvement Clinic. DMV separately licenses commercial Driver Improvement clinics for CDL holders and drivers who commit an offense while operating a commercial motor vehicle.

In addition, the restricted privileges created through § 46.2-506 do not authorize operation of a commercial motor vehicle. CDL holders should follow the specific DMV commercial-driver requirements that apply to them.
